Small town Madhugiri derives its name from a hillock, Madhu-giri (honey-hill) a solitary hill, second largest monolith in Asia. Nestled on its steep slopes is a fort that is dedicated to Hyder Ali. On the top is the ruined Gopalakrishna temple. The peak offers some amazing scenery of the forest surrounding the hill. This moderate trek, about 4km each way, with night stay is a doable trip within 100km from Bangalore.

Tadiandamol the highest mountain in Kodagu district is the third highest peak in Karnataka. The mountain has patches of shola forests in the valleys. The climb to the top and back can be completed as a day hike. The 12km trek is of moderate intensity.
