Russell Market, located in Shivajinagar, is one of the oldest markets in Bangalore built during the British era in 1927 and inaugurated by Ismail Sait in 1933. The market was named after T.B. Russell, the city’s then Municipal Commissioner. The building was attractively designed like London Markets with a subtle Indian touch.  However, on February 26th, 2012 due to a short circuit early morning Russell Market was ravaged in a fire.  But just like a Phoenix, Russell Market was back to business within a few days to its usual bustling self.

Russell market is a one-stop place in Bangalore where folks can buy anything that they’ve been hunting for everywhere else. It has everything for everyone!  This heritage market offers ample shopping experience and has everything that interests the shopaholics. Russell market is flaunted by the popular Catholic church, St Mary's Basilica at one end of the square and at the other, a Mosque. From old Bangaloreans to new Bangaloreans, Russell market draws crowds every day. The old clock towers, pillars and the dingy market area almost transport you back in time to an era when vendors & customers were like a family.
