Rajgad to Torna Trek Overview

Rajgad to Torna Trek is one of the most beautiful treks in the Sahyadri Range. Rajgad fort is in Bhor Taluka of Pune District. The base village of Rajgad fort is Gunjavne which is 205 km and 60 km away from Mumbai & Pune respectively. The Rajgad Trek is easy from the base village. Occasional steep climbs and picturesque surrounding makes a paradise for nature lovers and photographers.

Torna trek from Rajgad fort is through ridges of around 7 hills offering windy experience throughout the Rajgad to Torna trek. It also provides the views of the deep valleys which may be unnerving. The total distance from Rajgad to Torna is around 12 km which takes around 6 8 hours of trekking. Thus, the endurance required for this Rajgad to Torna trek is high.

Rajgad was and will be well known as the Capital of the Maratha Empire before Raigad came into existence. Torna is also famous as it was the first fort that Great Shivaji Maharaj conquered. Thus, visiting these 2 forts is also of Historic Importance.

Rajgad to Torna Trek Itinerary

Meeting Point:

Mumbai People: Dadar Station East 5:30 am
Pune People: Wakad and nearby area of Bangalore Highway 9:30 am

Day 1: Rajgad Trek

We are waiting for you

Meet at Dadar Railway Station (East) near Pritam Hotel at 5:30 am. We will depart in our transfer vehicle to Gunjavne Village which is the base village of Rajgad fort.

Hello, Pune People

Meet us at 9 am at Hinjewadi Bridge (Bhujbal Chowk) as we will proceed to the base village of Rajgad fort.

Fun Introduction and Start the Rajgad Trek

We will reach Gunjavne Village around 11:30 am. After freshening and a fun introduction round, we will start the Rajgad Trek.

Rajgad Fort The Residence of the Great Maratha Warrior

We will reach Rajgad Fort around 2:30 pm. Relax at Padmavati Temple. Freshen up and enjoy the feast of Delicious Lunch at Padmavati Temple.

Explore the Mighty Rajgad Fort

Around 3:30 pm we will proceed to Bale Killa and take darshan of the Samadhi of Soyra Bai, First wife of Shri Shivaji Maharaj.

Padmavati Temple, Fun Games & Rural Dinner

Head back to Padmavati Temple around 5:30 pm. Relax for a while and enjoy the fun games of Antakshari, Dumb Charades, and MisMatch. Around 8:30 pm we will fill our stomach with delicious dinner. Sleep early as we will have a big day tomorrow.

Day 2 - Rajgad to Torna Trek

Good Morning Folks

Wake up around 5 am. Freshen up and head to Torna Fort around 6 am through Sanjivani Machi.

Delicious Breakfast

Around 7:30 am, we will take a break to enjoy the packed breakfast. Eat sufficiently but not in excess as it may cause trouble while trekking.

Torna Fort

After trekking for a while and walking on the ridges of the hills, we will reach Torna Fort through Bhagat Darwaza around 1 pm. Relax for a while, applaud for the effort you put in to reach here.

Lovely Rural Lunch at Torna Fort

Revitalize your body and mind by enjoying the lunch of freshly cooked vegetarian dishes. We will start the descend around 2:30 pm.

What an Amazing Experience - Rajgad to Torna Trek

We will head back to the base village of Torna Fort Velhe around 2:30 pm. Dont forget to bid Adieu to this range trek before capturing the ending moments of the Rajgad to Torna trek. We will reach Base village around 5 pm. (The approximate reporting time to Pune is around 7 pm and Mumba is around 9:30 pm.)

Later, everyone will be sharing the Rajgad to Torna Trek pictures in a group.

Rajgad to Torna Trek Rules

In Mountains & Jungles, smoking attracts honeybees and one has to face dangerous "honeybee attack" where survival of the person is difficult, hence smoking is strictly prohibited.
Drinking Alcohol is strictly prohibited during Rajgad to Torna Trek.
Leader's Decision will be Final and Binding.

Really loved this trek.. while going in , the uphill task is a little daunting.

The woods are real thick at some places and ambiance is quite refreshing.

The climb is difficult at some places as there are not well constructed steps.

However, some parts up the fort are steep and takes a challenging climb.

The paths are streams of either bogs or mossy rocks -- each having their own fun hazards.

But that is what keeps the trek natural and exciting.

There are pretty white crabs in the stream-paths -- very interesting.

The trip to top was awesome.

The strong breeze blowing at the top quickly dries off the sweat from the climb too.

This was the week of onslaught of the monsoon, so it was amazing warm monsoon rain and as we got closer there was also mist and fog.

It was green and wet all over.

The view of the surrounding countryside from the top is simply breathtaking. Well worth the climb up.

The fort is in ruins and makes a beautiful place for pictures..

The greenery just added to the awesomeness. the view from top is gorgeous..

There is nothing much to see atop the fort except some water cisterns and the thumbs up point.

The shape of the hill-top is fascinating. It replicates your mood giving you a thumbs up when you finish a couple of tough climbs,

but also taking the opportunity of showing a ""up yours"" when you're struggling.

From the top you can really appreciate the control this fort would have given the incumbent in seasons like this.

Really loved the time spent on top.

There is nothing much to see at the top of the fort except the surroundings.

However, we were treated to a spectacular view from the top.

It indeed feels great once we have reached the top.

But the moment we reached the top, clouds began moving in and all of a sudden it just started pouring..

The sudden change was indeed welcome.

But due to the rains, the path down had become super slippery..

Coming down was difficult in the bad patches due to steepness of the rocky roads.

My research had dismissed the climb as an ""easy"" one: I can attest that in the monsoon rain and fog it is definitely close to the top rating on difficulty.

But this shouldn't daunt you since you're likely to be surrounded

by singing dancing dare-devil fellow trekkers in this season.

There is a small bird sanctuary just at the base.

We were treated to the sights of peacocks and a few little rabbits.

All is well that ends well. It was worth the while, and the victory of surmounting the difficult is always sweet.

Overall Experience was amazing...Simply wow... cannot get over with the great experience...totally spellbound by the beauty of the place...

never felt so close to nature especially after the concrete jungle that is Mumbai

The initial climb is a tough one, the middle is a ridge -- a reward with great views.

The climb is steep but on the bright side very short ( barely 3 kms).

However I feel that this trek does offer a great break from busy and polluted citylife.

In conclusion, trekking up Karnala is a fun and enriching experience.

Thanks to SSA for this beautiful memorable experience... Team leaders were very polite and helpful...The food was provided just like ghar ka khana... Fellow trekkers were so good and friendly... really enjoyed...Once again Thank you SSA....
