A hill fort based at Vaghote Village, Palghar is one of the easy, scenic and less crowded treks near Mumbai in Monsoon. The fort can be easily spotted from Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway near Manor Naka.
Unfolding the history, Kohoj was conquered and considered in Sawarajya in 1657. Later, Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj had to surrender the hillfort, one of those 23 forts, in Treaty of Purandar to Mughal. Marathas reconquered the fort in 1670 again from Mughals.
Kohoj fort is rich in ruins of forts and temples. One can easily spot a man-shaped pinnacle while ascending the hillfort.
