About Kanha
Kanha national park which is spread across 940, declared a national park in 1955 and a tiger reserve in 1973. It is nestled in the Maikal Hills which sprawls across the Mandla and Balaghat districts.
Kanha National Park has done remarkable work in saving the endangered species of Swamp Deer also popularly known as Barasingha, which is also the state animal of Madhya Pradesh.

This national park has stories from the era of Lord Ram, as per the great epic Ramayana, King Dasharatha killed Shravan Kumar while hunting a deer in this forest.
A substantial chunk of tiger population thrives here and so you stand a better chance of spotting tigers.

Kanha attracts wildlife photographers mainly because it is home to the majestic tiger, Indian leopards, sloth bear, barasingha, Indian wild dog, foxes, jackals, spotted deer, sambar, barking deer and the four-horned antelope. If you are lucky and keep a sharp eye, you might also spot Nilgai, striped hyena and mouse deer.

Bird lovers would be delighted to know that Kanha brings around 350 species of birds like Scarlet Minivet, Black-hooded Oriole, Indian Roller, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Green Bee Eater, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, White Rumped Shama, White Bellied Drongo, Spangled Drongo, Racket Tailed Drongo, Twany Babbler, Jungle Babbler to name a few.
