GullyTales, as the name suggests, is your one-stop-event to learn about the zones that comprise the city you call home. GullyTales gives you the perfect H.A.L.T (Heritage, Art, Life, Tales) experience of a zone peppered with the most obscure, interesting, fascinating facts...straight from the gully up to the last cutting chai available!
Mumbai has many interesting facets and the Fort precinct bears testimony to that. The name comes from a fort, built on the-then Bombay's eastern shore, by the British East India Company to protect their interests. The Fort was later demolished in the 19th century but the name stayed.
One of the busiest business districts of the world, Fort is synonymous with commerce, heritage, architecture, stories of rags to riches and anecdotes from lives of some of the most famous men in Mumbai's history.
Over time, several historical monuments, buildings and structures built in the Fort district in 19th and 20th centuries stood the test of time and made their place in the colonial history of the zone. Most buildings house important public and government offices and are hallmarks of Neo-Gothic and Art Deco architectural styles.
Fort is also home to important institutions such as Bombay High Court, Mumbai University, The Reserve Bank of India, Bombay Stock Exchange, etc.
The most interesting in Fort are the myriad Bazaars weaving through the maze of lanes and bylanes of the area. Each bazaar houses zones where traders deal in specific commodities. The Fort Heritage Walk will take you through these architectural marvels and the busy bazaars, with #GullyTales along the way.
