Small Steps Adventures One Day Trek To Karnala Fort

Karnala is located in Panvel Taluka of Raigad District. It is located 55 km and 125 km away from Mumbai and Pune respectively. Karnala Fort is amidst a dense Forest which is well-known as a Karnala Bird Sanctuary. Before starting the trek, you will come across a mini-zoo-like foundation of various animals and birds. The fort is clearly visible on Mumbai Goa Highway. Its thumb-like structure of Basalt Rock and it is one of a kind. One can reach Karnala Fort by a number of routes. But the one from the main gate is famous & also frequently used by many Trekkers, Photography enthusiasts.

Itinerary:

We are waiting for you

Meet at Panvel Railway Station at 7.30 am. We will proceed to Karnala Fort in our Transfer Vehicle.

Food First

We will reach Karnala Bird Sanctuary around 8.30 am. Enter the forest with permissions and enjoy the delicious breakfast before we begin the trek to Karnala Fort.

Karnala Fort, here we come!

Around 9.15 am, we will start our trek to Karnala Fort. The trek is mainly through the forest providing you enough shelter from the sun. But as the Forest is dense, you may also feel intense humidity. The duration of the trek is around 3 hours.

Yay, we are here! - Relax & feel the achievement of reaching the top.

We will reach Karnala Fort around 12 noon. Relax for a while and enjoy the view this fort offers. Don't forget to click numerous Group Photos and Safe Selfies. We will start the descend by 1 pm.

Lovely Rural Lunch after the hike is a must!

After filling the memory of your camera and mind, we head back to the base to feast on the delicacies of Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian dishes cooked by local villagers. We will reach base by 3 pm.

What an Amazing Experience! Share with your friends & family!

Post-Delicious Lunch, we will head to Panvel Railway Station around 4 pm. Don't forget to share your experience and feedback before bidding adieu.

Cancellation and refund applicable on the tour cost: 

If cancellation is done prior to 15 days of outing 75% will be refunded.
If cancellation is done prior to 10 days of outing 50% will be refunded.
After that, no refund will be provided.

Photo ID card
Good trekking or sport shoes (Compulsory)
Some ready to eat food (plum cakes, biscuits)
Electral/Tang powder/Glucose-D/salt
Cap, camera, mobiles phones, socks, extra pairs of clothes (if required)

In Mountains & Jungles, smoking attracts honeybees and one has to face dangerous "honeybee attack" where survival of the person is difficult, hence smoking is strictly prohibited.
Drinking Alcohol is strictly prohibited.
The leader's Decision will be Final and Binding.
Small Steps Adventures reserves all the right to Change/ Deviate/ Cancel the plans without prior notice.

Please do not carry Handbags or Jholas or Sling bags on treks.

Really loved this trek.. while going in , the uphill task is a little daunting.

The woods are real thick at some places and ambiance is quite refreshing.

The climb is difficult at some places as there are not well constructed steps.

However, some parts up the fort are steep and takes a challenging climb.

The paths are streams of either bogs or mossy rocks -- each having their own fun hazards.

But that is what keeps the trek natural and exciting.

There are pretty white crabs in the stream-paths -- very interesting.

The trip to top was awesome.

The strong breeze blowing at the top quickly dries off the sweat from the climb too.

This was the week of onslaught of the monsoon, so it was amazing warm monsoon rain and as we got closer there was also mist and fog.

It was green and wet all over.

The view of the surrounding countryside from the top is simply breathtaking. Well worth the climb up.

The fort is in ruins and makes a beautiful place for pictures..

The greenery just added to the awesomeness. the view from top is gorgeous..

There is nothing much to see atop the fort except some water cisterns and the thumbs up point.

The shape of the hill-top is fascinating. It replicates your mood giving you a thumbs up when you finish a couple of tough climbs,

but also taking the opportunity of showing a ""up yours"" when you're struggling.

From the top you can really appreciate the control this fort would have given the incumbent in seasons like this.

Really loved the time spent on top.

There is nothing much to see at the top of the fort except the surroundings.

However, we were treated to a spectacular view from the top.

It indeed feels great once we have reached the top.

But the moment we reached the top, clouds began moving in and all of a sudden it just started pouring..

The sudden change was indeed welcome.

But due to the rains, the path down had become super slippery..

Coming down was difficult in the bad patches due to steepness of the rocky roads.

My research had dismissed the climb as an ""easy"" one: I can attest that in the monsoon rain and fog it is definitely close to the top rating on difficulty.

But this shouldn't daunt you since you're likely to be surrounded

by singing dancing dare-devil fellow trekkers in this season.

There is a small bird sanctuary just at the base.

We were treated to the sights of peacocks and a few little rabbits.

All is well that ends well. It was worth the while, and the victory of surmounting the difficult is always sweet.

Overall Experience was amazing...Simply wow... cannot get over with the great experience...totally spellbound by the beauty of the place...

never felt so close to nature especially after the concrete jungle that is Mumbai

The initial climb is a tough one, the middle is a ridge -- a reward with great views.

The climb is steep but on the bright side very short ( barely 3 kms).

However I feel that this trek does offer a great break from busy and polluted citylife.

In conclusion, trekking up Karnala is a fun and enriching experience.

Thanks to SSA for this beautiful memorable experience... Team leaders were very polite and helpful...The food was provided just like ghar ka khana... Fellow trekkers were so good and friendly... really enjoyed...Once again Thank you SSA....
