Korigad Fort is located near Lonavala which falls in Maval Taluka, Pune. It is 105 kms and 80 kms away from Mumbai and Pune respectively. Trek to Korigad is easy as one has to pass the Jungle trail and then the stairs are well constructed to reach Korigad. The top view is beautiful as one witnesses Amby Valley, Pawna Lake, Runway Strip, Tung Fort, Tikona Fort, Rajmachi Fort and many more. The major attractions of Korigad Fort are 2 major ponds in its premises, its fortification wall which is 2 kilometers long, Korlaidevi Temple and Ganesh Temple.

 

The history of Korigad is related to the Maratha Empire. In the 17th Century, Shivaji Maharaj incorporated this fort in Swarajya along with the nearby forts such as Lohagad, Visapur, Tung, Tikona, Rajmachi, and Ghangad.

 

Itinerary:

Meet at Lonavala Railway Station at 8 am. We will travel in the Transfer Vehicle to Peth Shahapur which is the base village of Korigad Fort.

 

Food First

 

We will reach Peth Shahapur village around 9 am. Before we begin the trek, we will fill our stomach with delicious breakfast.

 

Korigad Fort, here we come

 

We will start the trek to Korigad Fort around 9:30 am post Breakfast. Enjoy the surrounding views of beautiful landscapes while climbing.

 

Yay, we are here

 

We will reach the top of the fort around 11 am. Explore the fort and take ample group photos and safe selfies. Dont forget to walk near the fortification wall to enjoy the high-speed winds. We will start the descend around 12 noon.

 

Lovely Rural Lunch

 

We will reach the base village around 1 pm. Feast on the delicacies of freshly cooked vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes by the villagers. We will head to Lonavala Railway Station around 2 pm.

 

Wow, What an Amazing Experience

 

We will reach Lonavala Railway Station around 4 pm. Please dont forget to share your experience about the event on our way back. All the best for the future journey.

In Mountains & Jungles, smoking attracts honeybees and one has to face dangerous "honeybee attack" where survival of the person is difficult, hence smoking is strictly prohibited.

Drinking Alcohol is strictly prohibited.

Really loved this trek.. while going in , the uphill task is a little daunting.

The woods are real thick at some places and ambiance is quite refreshing.

The climb is difficult at some places as there are not well constructed steps.

However, some parts up the fort are steep and takes a challenging climb.

The paths are streams of either bogs or mossy rocks -- each having their own fun hazards.

But that is what keeps the trek natural and exciting.

There are pretty white crabs in the stream-paths -- very interesting.

The trip to top was awesome.

The strong breeze blowing at the top quickly dries off the sweat from the climb too.

This was the week of onslaught of the monsoon, so it was amazing warm monsoon rain and as we got closer there was also mist and fog.

It was green and wet all over.

The view of the surrounding countryside from the top is simply breathtaking. Well worth the climb up.

The fort is in ruins and makes a beautiful place for pictures..

The greenery just added to the awesomeness. the view from top is gorgeous..

There is nothing much to see atop the fort except some water cisterns and the thumbs up point.

The shape of the hill-top is fascinating. It replicates your mood giving you a thumbs up when you finish a couple of tough climbs,

but also taking the opportunity of showing a ""up yours"" when you're struggling.

From the top you can really appreciate the control this fort would have given the incumbent in seasons like this.

Really loved the time spent on top.

There is nothing much to see at the top of the fort except the surroundings.

However, we were treated to a spectacular view from the top.

It indeed feels great once we have reached the top.

But the moment we reached the top, clouds began moving in and all of a sudden it just started pouring..

The sudden change was indeed welcome.

But due to the rains, the path down had become super slippery..

Coming down was difficult in the bad patches due to steepness of the rocky roads.

My research had dismissed the climb as an ""easy"" one: I can attest that in the monsoon rain and fog it is definitely close to the top rating on difficulty.

But this shouldn't daunt you since you're likely to be surrounded

by singing dancing dare-devil fellow trekkers in this season.

There is a small bird sanctuary just at the base.

We were treated to the sights of peacocks and a few little rabbits.

All is well that ends well. It was worth the while, and the victory of surmounting the difficult is always sweet.

Overall Experience was amazing...Simply wow... cannot get over with the great experience...totally spellbound by the beauty of the place...

never felt so close to nature especially after the concrete jungle that is Mumbai

The initial climb is a tough one, the middle is a ridge -- a reward with great views.

The climb is steep but on the bright side very short ( barely 3 kms).

However I feel that this trek does offer a great break from busy and polluted citylife.

In conclusion, trekking up Karnala is a fun and enriching experience.

Thanks to SSA for this beautiful memorable experience... Team leaders were very polite and helpful...The food was provided just like ghar ka khana... Fellow trekkers were so good and friendly... really enjoyed...Once again Thank you SSA....
