Did not live up to any of the promises made. We went for the hassle free package but right from the start it was a journey downhill. Our transport from Guwahati to Ziro took 25.5 hours because the driver did not have the ILP!! All 40 encampers missed the opening of the festival for which we paid in advance in the hassle free package. The entire campsite was a mess with the organization left to a few volunteers. The actual organisers were not even present on the evening of our check in. The so called tent for 4, which is charged at a whopping rate of Rs 3412/- per person per night, is only good for 2 people. After pointing that out, we were given an extra tent. The meals promised are a joke. Breakfast with Maggie, bread and boiled egg! This is what they call a balanced breakfast choice. We were also told during breakfast that we can have either the Maggie OR sandwich. We are not allowed to eat both. And if we have taken one round, we cannot replenish! Dinner is another level for vegetarians. Water with Daal and a choice of Aaloo with Rice. The only savior was the pickle. One volunteer mentioned Paneer on the menu but when we went to ask for it, another volunteer said No, its not available. We chose Encamp because they promised sustainable experience. Instead they've made us a part of plastic and destruction in thier camp. The steel plates were very quickly replaced with styrofoam and the trash generated in the so called effort to maintain Zero Waste has failed. The management of the camp after the rains is your responsibility. The danger and peril of slipping and injuring is high and we did not see any effort from the camps side to put extra bamboo etc put to avoid mishaps. All 5 days weve had to manoeuvre through slush for the most basic requirements including usage of the washroom and getting to the dining area. Gumboots and festival pick up and drop were promised but again!! We had to literally beg initially and then demand forcefully for the boots. That also with your staff mentioning that we need to buy the boots, and when we refused, moved to paying a security deposit. This from us who have paid 100% of the stay amount to you upon confirmation of the booking. Where other guests who did not even pay the full amount were not charged for the boots at all. And no transport service as promised provided for the venue. The washrooms are also not enough for 180 guests. Four toilets and 2 bathing cubicles is NOT enough. Most mornings, there was no water. The camp is also not aware of any rights when it comes to animal cruelty and wildlife preservation. For "entertainment", guests are taken fishing in the nearby fields where fish swim in shallow water but have large fields to move in. One guest brought the fish he caught back and the staff "helped" him put the fish in barely 2 inches of water in a small bucket. When we pointed this out, the volunteer/staff said the fish is used to less water!! And when we really insisted that it must be kept in better conditions, they barely poured 200 ml more water and said it was not their responsibility that the guest brought the fish back. No concern for environment, wildlife and people. I give them a Zero! - by SHALU CHOPRA for Encamping at Ziro Festival of Music, Arunachal Pradesh .
