Design Circle as a part of the continuing CREATIVITY workshops invites you to the hands-on woodcut printmaking workshop. 

What is woodcut?

Originated in China, Woodcut is one of the oldest methods of printing that was used first on textiles and later on paper. Woodcut is a relief printmaking technique where a design is cut into the wooden block or surface with sharp tools following which the wooden surface is inked with a roller and then impressed onto paper. The actual printing can be done by hand or printing press.

Woodcut was popularly used as one of the visual art mediums mostly to create posters, book illustrations, etc.

The course of the workshop. (One Full Day)

  1. Introduction to woodcut
  2. Material knowledge
  3. How to Use woodcut tools for carving different textures
  4. Carving of the woodblock
  5. Taking multiple editions from one block by hand rubbing technique of printing
  6. Multicolor woodcut using reduction process (two colors)
  7. How to reproduce multiple prints from the same block
  8. How to do pin registration for taking multi-color prints from the same block.
  9. Each participant will learn the basics of Woodcut printmaking and will take 3 prints along with them at the end of the workshop. 

Note:

  • The workshop Fee includes a Cost of Materials, tools and Expert Mentoring.
  • We will also guide participants where to get which tools, what to look for when buying tools for DIY activities and what should be fair prices for such equipment.
  • Also, Complimentary Tea will be provided.
