Vagabond Experiences presents,

Into The Wild (Trek to Harishchandragad)

Harishchandragad is one of the most underrated treks in all of Maharashtra. No matter how much one tries to hype it, nothing in this world can prepare you for the phenomenon that is the Konkan Kada! It is awe-inspiring, to say the least. We have been doing this trek for years now, and we don't think we're ever gonna stop. It's a night filled with wonder, stories, and games.

About the trek:

Difficulty level: Moderate-Challenging

Base village: Khireshwar

Konkan Kada height: 1,422 m / 4,665 ft

Location: Ahmednagar district

Time taken to climb/descend: 4 hrs climb / 2.5 hrs descent (different routes)

Total distance of climb/descent: 7 km climb / 4 km descent

Duration: 2 nights / 3 days

Itinerary:

Day 1 (Friday)

10:00 pm: Assemble at Kalyan bus depot which is just outside Kalyan stn (West). Please do not be late.

11:00 pm: We will board a state transport bus to 'Khubi phata'. It's a long and chilly bus ride. Take a nap if you must.

2:00 am: We get off at Khubiphata and walk for around an hour beside 'Pimpalgaon Joge' dam to Khireshwar village. The night will be cold and the sky will be starry. Enjoy the walk.

3:00 am: Time to hit the sack. Snuggle down into your sleeping bags and get some rest. Lights out! Tomorrow is a long and tiring day.

Day 2 (Sat)

8:00 am: Rise and shine! Freshen up and head for breakfast. Eat well, you'll need all the energy you can get. We warm up for a bit to avoid any cramps and muscle pulls. Basic trekking rules and instructions will be given.

9:00 am: We now walk...Into The Wild.

Lots of beautiful spots to take breaks at and gulp down a few glasses of 'nimbu-paani'. Don't rush it. Every once in a while stop, listen to the birds, watch the landscapes change as we traverse the mighty Sahyadris.

2:00 pm: We reach our camping spot and have a village styled meal after a long & tiring hike. Explore the caves and ruins of Harishchandragad as well as the temple of Kedareshwar where you can fill your water bottles from the natural underground spring. Take a well-deserved shut-eye.

4:00 pm: We make our final climb to Konkan Kada.

4:30 pm: Spend your time strolling around and getting a peek of the valley from the edge. It's an adrenaline rush, to say the least. Sit by the edge and enjoy the sunset. The Konkan Kada is famous for its reverse waterfall phenomenon. Throw some water off the cliff and watch the magic unfold ;)

7:30 pm: Our local villager friend will arrange dinner for us. Eat well and get a good night's sleep or stay up for a while and play campfire games with us. We sleep in the caves (during monsoons).

Day 3 (Sun)

7:00 am: Early wake-up call! Have a hearty breakfast and chai. Click all you can and say your final goodbyes to this beautiful mountain as we head down to Pachanai village.

11:00 am: We take jeeps from Pachnayi to Kasara station. On the way, we halt for a quick lunch break at Rajur village.

4:00 pm: Board a train from Kasara to V.T station. You can choose to get off anywhere that's convenient for you.

7:00 pm: Trip ends. Until next times folks!

Reviews for Organizer 5.0
I highly recommend choosing Vagabond as your travel partners for Spiti! I went to their fire-flies Bhandardara trip with a friend in June 2018, and then alone to Spiti in August 2018. Both the times, it was overwhelmingly positive, fun and memorable! In Spiti, from the ground you stand on to as far as your eyes can see, everything is awe-inspiringly beautiful. You dont really have to venture specifically to go to a beautiful spot. All of it is beautiful! And the trip organisers let us savour this stunning landscape in as much of its entirety as possible, sometimes making brief car-stops to just savour what lies in front of us, or moving around scheduled things if majority of us wanted to revisit a spot or stay at a spot for a little longer. They not only knew the usual tourist spots, but also those tucked away, the unusual and hidden ones. One evening, they took us to a cafe which was hosting an open mic evening, a documentary screening, and they had the cafe prepare a sumptuous local cuisine just for us! They made sure we got a taste of the local and the authentic. We savoured Spiti Coffee, Momos, Thukpa, Yam cheese, as well as apple orchards, river valleys, mountain tops, green-pea fields, ancient monasteries and some of the most delicious food!Whether it was travel, food, sight-seeing, stay or occasional unforeseen emergencies, they were very responsible and had everything in control. You can also be assured of great music for the road and some strange, fun games! The best part of going with Vagabond is that they let you be. They arent icy rigid with the itenary, youre free to do what you want to do, to wander and drift, to join their plan or stay back and do your own thing. They let you explore the place on your terms, at your own pace. As someone who was traveling alone, I felt safe and comfortable all throughout the trip. The organisers are very approachable and always friendly.I highly, highly, highly recommend choosing Vagabond as your travel organisers. - by Raushan for Back-Pack-Go!
