This' the sea-sun to go beach-hopping!

The town of Gokarna, just south of Goa, is home to a pristine stretch of beaches in western Karnataka. Its a wholesome mix of relaxing by the beach with a beer and a book, and taking a long boat ride where we hop and skip through beaches. The town is also home to the ancient Mahabaleshwar temple and, legend has it, houses the birthplace of Lord Hanuman. This is, by far, one of the most chilled-out backpacking trips you will find.

Who's ready to beach comb through coastal paradise?

Itinerary

Day 1

The first pickup point is at 4:00 pm at Andheri (E), Hanuman bus stop from where we board our AC semi-sleeper bus to Gokarna. You can board the bus from other stops which are mentioned below. The bus will make a dinner halt on the way.

Day 2

Our ride will drop us to Madangeri at around 7:00 am, from where we will board our private vehicles to Kudle Beach (pronounced 'cood-lay', not 'cuddle'). From here, we take a short walk to reach our beachside homestay. Yes, we're getting there early, but that's why you have the rest of the morning to sleep, eat, drink, swim, whatever. You do you.

We'll regroup in the late afternoon for a trip to our secret beach. It's about an hour's ride away. To get there, we'll pass by quaint coastal hamlets, and go on a ferry over the Gangavalli river. Dig your toes into the sand and watch a magical sunset, before we head back to the homestay for some downtime.

Depending on how tired or excited we are, we can go exploring for new places to have dinner together. If you're willing to stay up late at night, you may even catch a glimpse of the bioluminescent phytoplankton in the waves!

Day 3

After a hearty breakfast, we will go on a gorgeous boat ride to explore Gokarna's other beaches (Om, Half Moon, Paradise, etc). We could halt at a café for a break. After lunch, we will check out, and head to Gokarna town. You're free to visit the ancient Mahabaleshwar temple which has drawn pilgrims from around the world for centuries. You could also visit the bazaar to sample some good South Indian food, and buy locally grown spices. Come evening time, we'll make our way back to Madangeri to board the bus to our cityscapes.

Day 4

We arrive back home around 09:00 am in the morning, refreshed and ready to take on the world!

Reviews for Organizer 4.8
I highly recommend choosing Vagabond as your travel partners for Spiti! I went to their fire-flies Bhandardara trip with a friend in June 2018, and then alone to Spiti in August 2018. Both the times, it was overwhelmingly positive, fun and memorable! In Spiti, from the ground you stand on to as far as your eyes can see, everything is awe-inspiringly beautiful. You dont really have to venture specifically to go to a beautiful spot. All of it is beautiful! And the trip organisers let us savour this stunning landscape in as much of its entirety as possible, sometimes making brief car-stops to just savour what lies in front of us, or moving around scheduled things if majority of us wanted to revisit a spot or stay at a spot for a little longer. They not only knew the usual tourist spots, but also those tucked away, the unusual and hidden ones. One evening, they took us to a cafe which was hosting an open mic evening, a documentary screening, and they had the cafe prepare a sumptuous local cuisine just for us! They made sure we got a taste of the local and the authentic. We savoured Spiti Coffee, Momos, Thukpa, Yam cheese, as well as apple orchards, river valleys, mountain tops, green-pea fields, ancient monasteries and some of the most delicious food!Whether it was travel, food, sight-seeing, stay or occasional unforeseen emergencies, they were very responsible and had everything in control. You can also be assured of great music for the road and some strange, fun games! The best part of going with Vagabond is that they let you be. They arent icy rigid with the itenary, youre free to do what you want to do, to wander and drift, to join their plan or stay back and do your own thing. They let you explore the place on your terms, at your own pace. As someone who was traveling alone, I felt safe and comfortable all throughout the trip. The organisers are very approachable and always friendly.I highly, highly, highly recommend choosing Vagabond as your travel organisers. - by Raushan for Back-Pack-Go!
