About Mandi

Situated on the banks of river Beas in Himachal Pradesh Mandi, is a popular tourist destination. The pleasant weather and the panoramic view of the snow capped mountains makes Mandi a favorite among the tourists.


It also serves as a gateway to some other famous valleys such as Kullu, Manali, Spiti and Lahaul. It is also a starting point for treks to Rewalsar, Shikari Devi, Barot, Jhatingri, Karsog and many more, Mandi is popular with trekkers. Mandi is one of the few places where Bandy, a sport similar to ice hockey, is played.

Mandi is home to various religious sites, which is the reason why it is also known as the Varanasi of the east. There are over 81 temples here including Bhima Kali temple, Bhutnath temple, Panchavaktra temple, Tarna temple and others. Apart from the temples, there are several other places to explore in or around Mandi.

Rewalsar lake is one of the popular spots in Himachal Pradesh forthe statue of Guru Rinpoche that overlooks the lake. At 123 ft, it is the second largest statue in Himachal Pradesh and is situated nearly 4000 ft above sea level. Other lakes situated near Rewalsar are also worth a visit which are associated with Pandavas and are called sar which means – meaning or moral.

Another lake near Mandi where you feel as if you are in the lap of nature is the Parashar lake. Located in a picturesque place, surrounded by snow capped mountains, the lake has a three storied pagoda-like temple dedicated to the sage Prashar.

If you are fond of adventure then you can head to Janjehli, a hotspot for adventure buffs. This place is about 67 kms away from Mandi.

How To Reach:

The nearest airport to reach Mandi is Bhuntar Airport. Mandi is about 31 kilometres from here. Main rail heads near this hill station are Jutogh Hill and Summer Hill from Shimla. There are direct buses from

Delhi to Mandi and it takes around 11 hours to reach Mandi in bus.
